bob's café

We’ve been living in our area for almost 4 years now, and in those few years, we’ve gained and discovered quite a few restaurants and cafés that we really enjoy - and are always excited for new openings that are only a few minutes away from our flat. So when Bob’s Café opened up a new branch on our doorstep, and were offering free food for their soft launch (yes, completely free, no catch!), we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to give it a try.

I have to admit, I was a little sceptical about the food after a glance at the menu. As a general rule, I don’t trust places that serve pasta, curry and duck confit in the same breath - call me a food snob, but these kinds of places don’t usually turn out too well. So my expectations weren’t all that high, and we went for the safe option of burgers, with some chicken wings to share that the waitress recommended.

I was proven so very wrong! The wings were moreish and perfectly sticky, but the burgers were what really impressed us. We’ve tried 3 local burgers (Five Guys, the one at a gastropub down the road, and Dirty Burger which is also new here), and none of them really won us over. We like ours medium rare, which I realise most places don’t serve, but the medium is usually too cooked for us and they’ve all been a bit… meh. But this one! This one was pink! It was so well cooked (or not well cooked in the best possible way) and we immediately declared it the best of the lot we’ve tried in Ealing. The fries were also spot on, and now it feels quite dangerous to have a burger we really like in such close proximity….

We tried the crumble for dessert, and this was a little too sweet for our liking, which was the only let down of the evening. I am so up for trying their cheesecake, which we did glance over at with envy at the next table!

I’m hoping to go back and try their other dishes - the shakshuka has particularly caught my eye. I love the decor and the vibe of the place, and I imagine it’s perfect for a slow, weekend brunch.

Now, if we could have a great ramen place in Ealing, we’d be all set…
