the full english @ zebrano

One of the lovely people I met at the Zomato event at Pacata

was Alexandra, who works for Zomato. We met up the other day for a lunch date at The Full English, which I didn't know about - a semi-permanent pop-up in Soho (in that they don't have a set end date).

Located on Greek Street which is a nice, quieter street with a few notable restaurants and cafés, they've set up shop in Zebrano. They pride themselves in their comforting, cosy cooking, mostly the British classics from - you guessed it - the full English breakfast to their chicken and leek pie.

I'm not actually a huge fan of what one might interpret as British cooking - roast dinners, pies, sausage and mash, that stuff is nice once in a blue moon, but I don't eat it on a regular basis. But the menu at this place was fairly varied, and as you might understand if you're a foodie that likes to try everything, we couldn't decide on what we wanted. So we shared three dishes - the stilton and leek tart, buttermilk pancakes with berry compote, and my personal favourite, the cinnamon bagel with bacon and avocado.

I am so glad I discovered this combination of that sweet bagel with the avocado and bacon, because I will most definitely be making that at home. It's a winner for me. The stilton and leek tart was very nice, quite mild and nothing exciting but down-to-earth home cooking. The scotch pancakes were lovely too but I would choose the thick, fluffy ones over these any day!

Our waitress was very friendly which I always think is so nice when you eat out, and I liked the chilled out and casual feel of the place. The food isn't anything special, but the whole menu is so reasonably priced and honestly made that this wasn't much of a negative for me. Sometimes simple is good.

I liked the little trinkets they'd decorated with too - reminds me of a retro corner shop!

If I was someone who could work from a laptop in any location, this would be somewhere I'd pick to have breakfast at while I had some quiet time with a cup of tea.
