new year's eve eve

The night before NYE, E and I spontaneously decided that it would be a tradition to celebrate new year's eve eve, just the two of us.

Since NYE this year was going to involve some classic Japanese food, we decided to go French for this meal and do an easy, but very indulgent meal for two.

It involved this:

Got the gist yet?

It's hardly an original idea, there are recipes for this all over the internet but really, it's barely a recipe. You preheat the oven (ours was at 200 degrees celsius), stick whatever herbs and flavours you want in your heavenly block of camembert (we used thyme, rosemary and smashed garlic cloves) and pop it in the oven for about 15 minutes.

We opened a bottle of bubbly as we had a few stashed away that were given to us, threw together a simple salad, tore off pieces of freshly baked baguette, and we had ourselves a feast.

Gooey melty cheese is always a winner in my books. It was a delicious way to spend the last quiet evening between us before 2014 came knocking.

This would be a serious crowd pleaser, but be prepared with more than you think you'll need - it gets eaten scarily fast.
